NEW TOOLING
All new tooling will be subject to the following:
- An Acme drawing and code will be issued detailing the length, width, height, radii, tolerances , material, and any special details. An example drawing is shown in figure 17. Drawings are generally done on a CAD system by one of our engineers.
- Completed drawings are submitted for the customers approval. Any required revisions will then be incorporated into the drawings and be resubmitted for approval.
- Once a drawing receives final approval, it is sent to the tool room foreman for final review.
- Any tooling work done outside of our facilities, such as E.D.M work, is inspected immediately upon receipt. An inspection is done by the tooling foreman to verify dimensional conformance and quality of finish.
- Once tooling is complete, 100 hand samples will be produced by tool room personnel and all will be checked for dimensional conformance.
- If parts are found to be unacceptable, the tool will be reworked or rebuilt and the inspection procedure will be repeated.
- If parts are found to be acceptable , the tool will be released for production. Samples may also be submitted to the customer for approval.
- The first production run for any new tooling will be monitored in the following manner:
- The first 100 pieces are 100 % QA inspected
- After 500 pieces are produced, a random sampling of 20 pieces will be taken for inspection by the QA manager.
- If any of the production is found to be nonconforming, the tooling foreman will be notified.
- After this initial procedure , further production will be subject to standard inspection procedures.
